The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work by Gleb Tsipursky is an insightful and very timely book about one of the biggest challenges facing organizations today: getting people to actually embrace AI.

What I liked most is that the book doesn’t focus only on technology. It explains the human side of AI adoption—fear of job loss, lack of trust, resistance to change, and the need for proper training and communication. The author makes a strong case that successful AI adoption depends as much on people and leadership as it does on the technology itself.

The practical examples and recommendations make the ideas easy to understand and apply. I especially liked the emphasis on involving employees, listening to skeptics, building AI skills, and using proper governance rather than simply forcing new tools into the workplace.

Overall, this book changed the way I think about AI at work. It is practical, relevant, and easy to follow, especially for managers, business leaders, and anyone interested in the future of work.

A highly recommended read for anyone who wants to understand not just what AI can do, but how people can successfully work with it.

“The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work” is a standout resource for anyone seeking to understand the human side of technological change in organizations. The book is exceptionally well-researched, drawing on a robust foundation of empirical studies and contemporary theory to build its arguments. What sets it apart is the depth and clarity of its examples—each chapter brings abstract concepts to life with vivid, relevant stories from real workplaces grappling with AI adoption.

The case studies featured throughout are particularly effective, offering spot-on illustrations of both the challenges and the opportunities that come with integrating artificial intelligence in professional settings. These cases don’t just highlight what can go wrong, but also provide context and practical insights for leaders and employees looking for the way forward.

Perhaps most impressive is the book’s accessibility. Despite the complexity of the subject matter, the author presents ideas in a clear, engaging style, making advanced psychological concepts understandable and actionable for readers at any level of expertise. This is an invaluable guide for anyone involved in organizational change, technology implementation, or simply interested in the future of work.

Book Review: The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work by Dr. Gleb Tsipursky

What I liked most about The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work is that it is not only about AI technology. It is mainly about people and how they can work with AI successfully.

Dr. Gleb Tsipursky explains that many employees are worried about AI. Some fear losing their jobs, while others do not trust AI or are uncomfortable with changing the way they work. The book shows that organizations need to understand these feelings and build trust through clear communication, training, and support.

I also liked the book’s focus on involving employees. Instead of simply giving people AI tools and telling them to use them, organizations should allow employees to test, improve, and learn how to use AI in their daily work. This can make employees more confident and willing to accept AI.

Another useful part of the book is its practical advice about communication, training, AI champions, safety, and measuring results. It shows that adopting AI is not a one-time process. Organizations need to keep learning and improving as the technology changes.

Overall, I found this book practical, useful, and easy to relate to. Its main message is simple: successful AI adoption is not just about having good technology; it is about helping people trust, understand, and use that technology properly.

Generative AI is becoming an important part of the workplace, but getting people to use it effectively is not simply a matter of providing AI tools. That is the central idea behind Gleb Tsipursky’s _The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work: From Resistance to Results_, and I found this focus on people particularly useful.

What I liked most is how the book explains common barriers to AI adoption, including **fear of job loss, lack of trust, resistance to change, and uncertainty**. Tsipursky shows that organizations can address these concerns through clear communication, employee involvement, training, and appropriate safeguards.

The book also offers practical advice on **AI champions, pilot programs, continuous learning, and measuring results**. I especially liked the emphasis on involving employees in testing and improving AI tools instead of simply telling them to use new technology. This can help create greater confidence and encourage wider adoption.

Another strong point is that the book does not present AI as a guaranteed solution. It discusses both the potential benefits and the risks of AI, including issues around accuracy, privacy, security, and responsible use.

Overall, I found this book **practical, informative, and relevant**. Its main message is clear: successful AI adoption is not just about technology; it is about helping people understand, trust, and use AI effectively.

While Generative AI has expanded rapidly since OpenAI’s introduction in 2023, bringing AI successfully into an existing organization requires proper planning, especially relative to how it is positioned to employees. How will AI impact them, and how can it become a positive experience for everyone?

Dr. Tsipursky’s landmark book, “The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work,” provides a roadmap for Senior Management of any organization to get this process right. I strongly endorse it as a landmark book in this AI era that is evolving at exponential speed.

There is obviously no shortage of discussion right now about AI and what it can do. What I liked about The Psychology of AI Adoption at Work is that it spends less time on the technology itself and more time on the part that I think ultimately determines whether AI actually delivers results: the people.

That really lines up with what I have seen working with companies on AI implementation. The technology is usually not the hardest part. The harder part is getting people comfortable using it, building trust, helping them understand where it fits into their work, and creating enough early wins that adoption starts to build on itself.

I also appreciated that Dr. Gleb Tsipursky doesn’t treat resistance as something management just needs to overcome. Resistance usually has a reason behind it, and understanding that reason is an important part of managing the change successfully.

For me, one of the biggest takeaways is that AI implementation is much more of a change-management and leadership challenge than a technology project. This book does a good job of giving leaders a practical way to think about that side of the equation.

Definitely worth reading for anyone trying to move AI beyond a few experiments and actually get it adopted across an organization.

Excellent review of the value of AI in industry. One industry that would benefit tremendously from this book is my industry, executive search and recruiting. Recruiters have been among the earliest adopters of generative AI, yet they face many of the psychological, ethical, and adoption challenges you describe in this book. Great job Gleb!

This book is a must read! At a time when many people are surging forward with plans to use AI in all kinds of ways, our ability to address the psychology of our adapting to these tools lags far behind their implementation. Tsipursky not only helps us understand how this impacts our ability to create healthy environments that include AI, he also gives us thoughtful ways to address these issues. In an age of AI, this book is essential!

Gleb’s work is always rooted in research, and this is no exception. What stands out is the very practical nature of the book as well. His examples around teams building the tools they use, vs using black-box AI, are a great example of both learning how to use AI and avoiding unnecessary vendor spend.

This work should appeal to everyone, from team leaders grappling with the impact of AI to CFOs and CEOs, and the chapters on governance, risk management and his frameworks deliver on the needs of senior executives today. They also should pay attention to Gleb’s call-out that leaders need to go first—evidence and my own work with organizations shows how critical that is— as well as the need to invest in time for people to learn to build.

Gleb has done something rare here: He’s created a framework that actually describes the people in your organization instead of just describing the problem.

The psychographic typing—Alarmist, Pragmatic Resistor, Skeptical Observer—is worth the read alone. The moment you name these archetypes, you stop thinking about the book and start thinking about your own team.

The frameworks on governance, psychological safety, and upskilling are solid and actionable. They give you structure for thinking through AI adoption as a leadership challenge, not just a technology problem.

Where this book really lands is when Gleb steps away from the framework and into the story. The best moments are when you’re seeing an actual person navigate resistance, not just reading about resistance as a concept. If you’re leading a team through this transition, those human moments are what you’ll actually remember.

This is essential reading if you’re responsible for AI adoption in your organization. Just make sure you’re reading it for the frameworks and the people, not one without the other.

**Recommended for:** Leaders, VPs of Ops, anyone tasked with moving an organization through technological change.

AI is here to stay, and to evolve far beyond what it is now. This book is about how people can best use it and change with it, not so AI gets better, but instead so we get better at what we do. Consider it a primer on how we as individuals can upgrade ourselves, as the technology of AI evolves. Well worth reading and then considering how we will adapt to this changed environment swirling about us.

Dr. Gleb Tsipursky’s AI Adoption at Work is one of the few books that truly understands that successful AI integration isn’t a technology problem; it’s a psychology problem. Tsipursky shows how fear of job loss, identity disruption, and organizational stigma shape employee reactions far more than any technical barrier. His guidance is refreshingly practical: create psychological safety, communicate transparently about job security, and position AI as a collaborative partner rather than a threat. By grounding his recommendations in behavioral science and workplace dynamics, he offers leaders a clear roadmap for helping employees embrace AI as a tool that enhances their capabilities instead of replacing them.

One of the book’s standout contributions is Tsipursky’s breakdown of psychographic profiles that explain why employees respond so differently to AI. He identifies groups such as AI Alarmists, who worry that automation will make their roles obsolete; Pragmatic Resistors, who fear AI encroaches on the core tasks that define their professional identity; and Reluctant Adopters, who quietly use AI but hide it due to cultural stigma. Tsipursky shows how each group requires a tailored approach by addressing fear directly for Alarmists, reinforcing expertise for Pragmatic Resistors, and normalizing open AI use for Reluctant Adopters. This framework gives leaders a powerful lens for understanding the emotional landscape of AI adoption and designing strategies that build trust, reduce resistance, and ultimately encourage employees to see AI as an empowering part of their work.

This book identifies the primary challenge in implementing an AI-centric application or company strategy. It is not the technology, but the people. Dr. Gleb properly identifies the foundations of employee “BUY-IN”:
    1. Compelling vision 2. Psychological safety and 3. Clarity for managers. He suggests an empowerment approach allowing user to create their own solutions. Dr. Gleb’s outlines the 8 employee profiles from resistant to in the middle to enthusiast. Of particular value is Dr.Gleb’s description of how to engage each type of employee. Here are the “MUST HAVES” to get employee buy-in: 1-Address job security directly 2-Leaders must model usage, and 3-Include the skeptics. In conclusion THE PSYCHOLOGY of AI ADOPTION at WORK is a book all organizational leader should read to make sure their AI strategy is adopted and not sabotaged.
